AI Spotlight: Google Released Gemini

Why it matters?

On Wednesday, Google released their highly anticipated "family of multimodal AI models" named Gemini.

Google launched three different models: Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano.

The most powerful one is Gemini Ultra. It achieved new top-notch results in 30 out of 32 benchmarks Google tested. Gemini Ultra outperformed GPT-4 (and all other similar models) in "9 out of 9 image understanding benchmarks, 6 out of 6 video understanding benchmarks, and 5 out of 5 speech recognition and speech translation benchmarks."

Simply put: GPT-4 is still a bit better in some text and reasoning tests, but Gemini Ultra is outstanding in comprehending and analysing images, videos, and human speech. Unfortunately, we can't test these claims yet because Google hasn't announced when Gemini Ultra will be released—just that it's "coming next year."

For now, we have two other models: Gemini Pro and Gemini Nano.

Gemini Pro's performance is similar to GPT-3.5, and Google has already added Pro to Bard. You can try it out today and see how well it performs. Gemini Nano, on the other hand, is a smaller, efficient model designed for smartphones. It will be integrated into the Pixel series sometime next year.

With this move, Google has taken the lead in the AI race, surpassing OpenAI as we head into 2024.

Tool Talk: Audiobox by Meta 🪄

Use Case: AI audio generator with unique features

Why you should care?

Meta has introduced Audiobox, a comprehensive AI model for audio, now available for testing.

With Audiobox, you can create speech samples and sound effects for free using both voice and text prompts. The remarkable feature of Audiobox is its ability to clone any voice with just a few seconds of an audio sample, producing highly convincing sound effects. You can even describe how you want a voice to sound in text, and Audiobox will generate a new and unique voice based on that description.

While the current demo has limitations, Audiobox aims to be a one-stop solution for all your AI audio needs. Many companies are working on AI text-to-speech or sound effects, but Meta's Audiobox combines these functionalities into a single tool.

Though the demo may be limited now, it's advisable to familiarise yourself with these AI audio tools. They are here to stay, and they will only improve over time. Getting early experience with these tools provides a significant advantage in staying ahead of the competition.

Prompting Curiosity: Santa GPT 📝

We Just Created the First Santa Claus AI

Prompt:It's December, and I need to buy gifts for the holiday season. I want to buy gifts for [specify gift recipients]. My total budget is [enter budget]. Ask me questions about each of these people, including how much money I'm looking to spend on each, then use my answers to help brainstorm 5 unique gifts suggestions for each.

How to Use:Tell ChatGPT who you're buying gifts for, give it a general budget, and send the prompt.

ChatGPT will ask you questions about the gift recipients. Answer each question with 2-3 sentences to give ChatGPT a good amount of context to work with, then your AI gifting assistant will give you a customised list of 5 unique gifts for each person on your nice list.

Remember you don't have to stop at 5 suggestions! If you don't like what ChatGPT comes up with, tell it "give me another list of items unrelated to the first 5 items you suggested".
